Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig on 21 September 1983) is an American actress, best recognized for her performances as Shannon Rutherford on the ABC television series Lost and Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Her parents had divorced and she moved with her mom to Los Angeles. Although she was struggling financially in 2001, her debut came as Rachel's Room's main character. The actress was able to secure an Young Artist Award nomination in 2002 for her performance as fifteen-year-old victim Martha Moxley in the television movie Murder which aired in Greenwich. Grace Rutherford was the lead actress in Lost in its two initial seasons. In 2004 she received the Screen Actors Guild Award with the entire ensemble. The show ended in 2005 and Grace wanted to appear on film more frequently, having starred opposite Tom Welling in The Fog in 2005. In addition, she appeared in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club (both 2007) and also starred alongside Liam Neeson as Kim Mills in Taken in 2008. Her role was reprised as Kim Mills in Taken 2 (2011) and Taken 3 (2013).She also played Alice in Malice in Wonderland, a modern adaptation from the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace returned to her role as Shannon in Lost, including the finale. In 2013, she appeared in the sixth season of Californication. She portrays Faith as a groupie, as well as a model for stars. She is part of the Gyllenhaal family and is the sister to Jake Gyllenhaal. As a teenager She appeared in small roles in the films of her father and she co-starred alongside her brother in Donnie Darko the popular cult movie. She then appeared on the screen in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind as well as Mona Lisa Smile (both 2002). Gyllenhaal received praise from critics for her performances as the lead in Secretary (2002 an erotic romantic drama) and Sherrybaby (606) Both of which garnered their Golden Globe Award nods. After several commercially successful films in 2006, including World Trade Center she received more attention for her role as Rachel Dawes in the superhero film The Dark Knight (2008). She was nominated to win an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress for her role in Crazy Heart, (2009). The following years, she starred in comedies and dramatic films: Nanny McPhee & the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011 and Won't Back Down 2012. Apart from her character as a Secret Service agent, she has also appeared in White House Down (2013) as well as Frank (2014). One of her latest roles included the protagonist in The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). In 2021 Gyllenhaal was able to make her writing and directing debut in the psychological thriller The Lost Daughter for which she received The Lost Daughter the Venice International Film Festival's Best Screenplay Award and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
